2022 Taipei Film Festival

After last year’s festival was postponed to autumn due to the pandemic, this year’s much-anticipated Taipei Film Festival (TFF) will officially return to the summer season. It brings together over 100 exciting films from home and abroad—from old classics to highly anticipated Taiwanese premieres and award-winning works from major film festivals around the world—all for fans to enjoy during the 17-day event. Another part of the festival is the International New Talent Competition, Taiwan’s only international film competition for debut features.

This year’s festival will open with the Asian premiere of Mama Boy, starring Vivian Hsu and Kai Ko, and close with the world premiere of World of Tales, starring Hsiao-Chuan Chang, Kang-Sheng Lee and Shin Yin.

Mama Boy is a love story about a reserved and timid boy who falls in love with a mature and sophisticated city girl. World of Tales touches on realistic social issues and has a lawyer as the main character. The two works are very different in style, reflecting the diversity of genres and the richness of themes in Taiwanese film, which is the strong point of Taiwanese films this year.
