Open Call: Taipei Old House Photography Contest 2022

In recent years, the Old House Photography Contest has received an enthusiastic response from those interested in photography and old houses alike. Submissions for this year’s contest will be assessed by a professional panel and must consist of photographs of people and objects relating to old houses in Taipei.

The definition of “old house” is not limited to cultural heritage sites, but submissions must include at least one photograph of one of the contest’s designated buildings, such as the former Residence of Yan Xishan (閻錫山故居) or the former Taipei Prison Office (臺北刑務所官舍), both of which opened to the public this year. For a full list of eligible buildings, please refer to the open call regulations.

Three first prize winners, five second prize winners, 20 third prize winners and 10 runners-up will be selected. First prize is a cash award of NT$30,000. Total cash prizes amount to NT$100,000. All 38 selected works will be exhibited at the Former Taipei Prison Office in November and printed in a booklet. Photographic works help draw the public to cultural heritage sites to experience the architectural beauty of old houses and inspire them with the spirit of cultural heritage preservation.

Celebrity Vera Yen will act as publicity ambassador for the event. Ms Yen appears as a photographer in the publicity video with the theme “Taipei in My Eyes”, recording the rich façades of Taipei’s cultural heritage sites and inviting the public to visit the former residences of famous personalities to carve out the historical memory of old houses, raise awareness of cultural heritage preservation and get to know Taipei’s heart.

Submissions are open for the Taipei Old House Photography Contest from August 15 to October 10. The list of winners will be announced on the contest’s Facebook page in November.
