The U.S. military constructed dormitories A to F on Yangmingshan, taking up an area of about 14 hectares, in the traditional style of suburban wooden houses from the American South. Standard fittings include fireplaces, chimneys, sunrooms, garages, and gardens, as well as yellow palm (common in California), Dragon Juniper (favored for Christmas trees), and Japanese Ternstroemia hedgerows. This allowed overseas U.S. military personnel in Taiwan to feel as if they were back in their hometowns when they came back here with their family who had moved to Taiwan.
The renovation and reuse of old houses is one thing, and their future use and management another thing entirely. This tour will bring visitors closer to Yangmingshan cultural assets to demonstrate the vitality of old houses in the region after renovation.
