Belgian visual artist Miet Warlop’s “One-Song” is a program composed of an infinite cycle of singing, choreography, and gymnastics. Following Warlop’s work seven years ago mourning her deceased brother, “One-Song” reveals that grief has not disappeared but, through mutual support, has been transformed into a celebration of life and community.
The live competition and singing in the performance are Warlop’s carefully chosen metaphors that show how seemingly unrelated individuals can form a community through song, highlighting the vitality of theater and its social significance.
“Black Lights” is adapted from the German-French public television series H24, which exposes the various forms of violence women endure in everyday life. Mathilde Monnier, former director and choreographer of the Centre National de la Danse in France, selected nine real-life stories and translated the language of the camera into different forms of expression, including body, music, and language. This adaptation conveys women’s anger and trauma while striving to find a ray of hope in each story.
