As you enter the alleys of Jinjiang Street, you’ll discover a temple dedicated to the Earth God (Tudigong), known as Changqing Temple. Behind the temple stands an ancient banyan tree with a circumference of ten meters, believed to be over 250 years old. This temple serves as the historical center of Guting Village (古亭庄), established during the Qing Dynasty by immigrants from Quanzhou, Fujian, who settled here.
Originally, Guting Village (古亭庄) was not large in scale, but the excavation of canals and irrigation ditches, such as the Liugongzun, stimulated development in the Jingmei area and led to an increase in the population of nearby Guting.
This temple became the spiritual center for the pioneers and is also a testament to ethnic cooperation and coexistence. A group of immigrants from other provinces also initially settled in the Nanjichang area. As their children grew up, some chose to purchase properties in nearby Guting, thus becoming devotees of Changqing Temple. Residents from all ethnic groups in the area can seek shade beneath the ancient banyan tree and receive blessings at Changqing Temple.
