VII. Introduction:
As Taiwan's first museum of modern art, Taipei Fine Arts Museum embraced high ideals and ambitious goals from the outset. TFAM organizes and plans contemporary art exhibitions, collects and stores works of art representative of the various eras of Taiwan's artistic development, engages in fine arts research and scholarship, and promotes art education and international exchanges. Its objectives are to make art appreciation an integral part of Taipei residents' lives, to foster the development of Taiwan on the international stage, and to help the island stay abreast of the latest trends in world art.
In order to present contemporary art in its full spectrum of forms and appearances, the TFAM building was designed as a multi-functional exhibition space, a bountiful stage for artistic creation with limitless possibilities. Over half of the museum's architectural volume lies below ground, strengthening the dialectical relationship between the museum and the adjacent park, and producing a state of expansiveness with both horizontal and vertical dimensions. Rectilinear windows allow visual access to the surrounding scenery on all sides V mountains, the nearby river, the overhead mass transit line, buildings, and frequent passers-by V and afford a welcoming glimpse of the museum to the outside world. Its strongly international, urban, contemporary feel makes TFAM a modern art museum bridging the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition to being an institution of fine art and culture, it is also a space to converse, rest and uplift one's spirit. With increasingly diversified and refined features such as a theme restaurant, cafe and an art bookstore, TFAM makes art part of life, and people's lives more artistic.
