Taipei DAC Turning into a Digital Art Matching Platform to Enhance the Capabilities of Digital Art

The Taipei Digital Art Center (DAC) has been run by the Digital Art Foundation under the Act for Promotion of Private Participation in Infrastructure Projects since 2009. Initially scheduled to cease operations on March 6, 2017, the center has undergone periodic reviews by the Taipei Municipal Department of Cultural Affairs which have concluded that there is a public need for the promotion of digital art. Starting from April 20, 2018, operations were entrusted to the Association of the Visual Arts in Taiwan (AVAT) under the Taipei City Autonomous Ordinance on Entrusting Management of Municipal Properties (臺北市市有財產委託經營管理自治條例), set to conclude on April 19, 2024.

In response to rapid changes in the art industry and the development of cultural and artistic infrastructure in the city, including the development of Taipei Art Park (臺北藝術園區, Taipei Fine Arts Museum Expansion Project), the department conducted a thorough assessment of the city’s overall art resources, venue functions, and strategic positioning. Since the Digital Art Center was established during the early days of the digital technology era with a forward-looking plan, and since it has shown tangible achievements in digital art creation and presentation, the center was deemed to have successfully completed its initial tasks.

The Taipei Digital Art Matching Platform Service Contract (臺北數位藝術媒合平臺勞務委託案) will consolidate digital art resources, foster talent, and use exceptional projects to make connections with international digital art networks. This initiative is aimed at supporting exceptional digital artists and arts teams, nurture emerging talents, and actively promote digital art. Interested groups or entities are encouraged to submit proposals between April 11 and April 26, 2024. The management of the venue’s facilities will be independently overseen by the Department of Cultural Affairs. The venue will mainly serve as an operational hub for digital art project coordination and talent development. It is anticipated that this transformation will yield long-term benefits for the expansion of digital art policy.
