The Special Contribution Award is nominated by a theatre observation group (看戲觀察團) and is also open to public recommendations. This award aims to highlight theatre’s societal value from various perspectives, honoring individuals or organizations for special contributions or achievements in contemporary Taiwanese theatre. Through these awards, every theatre professional has the opportunity to showcase their talents and receive well-deserved recognition and honor.
Eligible productions for the inaugural Taipei Theatre Awards include: any contemporary theatre production performed between July 1 and December 31, 2024, in public theatres in Taipei (including publicly operated, publicly operated but privately managed, and rented public theatres) and that has staged at least three officially ticketed performances. The total prize money is NT$2.7 million.
Applications for production and individual awards are open from May 1 to June 14, 2024. Recommendations for the Special Contribution Award are accepted from October 1 to November 30, 2024, with no limit on the number of recommendations, provided the nominee’s consent is obtained. The initial review will be conducted by a theatre observation group (看戲觀察團), which will attend the performances and vote on outstanding works that will go forward to the second round. Finalists will be selected by second-round judges, and award winners will be announced at a ceremony in June 2025.
