Bo-Pi Liao is a street which developed during the Ching period with the establishment of Lao-Song Elementary School. Located next to the school grounds, the street was originally reserved for future expansion of the school in urban plans, and construction of new buildings was not allowed. Thus the street has retained its Ching period and Japanese structures in remarkably intact shape.
Bo-Pi Liao stands today as an area which combines tradition and innovation, with an alluring mix of history and creativity everywhere you look. The street represents Taipei’s urban appearance in its art, culture and tourism-related activities. Since 2009 it has been the subject of close attention by the public and has been popularized through art education and cultural property promotions. Bo-Pi Liao is intended to serve as a stimulus for promoting Wanhua District as a window on the cultural history of Taipei City.
