Follow Tom Chang the Astronaut on a Musical Journey from the Earth to the Moon

The year 2022 coincides with the 25th anniversary of the death of musician Tom Chang (張雨生). To remind the public of Chang’s charms and musical accomplishment, the Taipei Music Center has specially organized Fly Me to the Moon and Back: Tom Chang Solo Show, with InFormat Design Curating responsible for curating the show.

Curator Pang Wang (王耀邦) will team up with Mayday bassist Masa (瑪莎), award-winning director Cowper Wang (王宗欣) and writer Pulp Chen (陳德政) to set up Tom’s Moon Mission, transforming moving works spanning over a decade of Chang’s musical career into a fantastical journey into outer space. We invite the public to visit the Cultural Center of the Taipei Music Center on February 28, 2023, to join us on a boundless journey into Chang’s musical universe along with an astronaut modeled after Chang.

Chang composed many highly popular songs in his short but brilliant life. The exhibition title Fly Me to the Moon and Back combines ideas and language found in two Chang classics—Miss You Every Day and Take Me to the Moon—to create two imaginative dimensions in time and space. The curatorial process involved collection of a large volume of cultural relics, research, and field work, consolidated into a string of legendary milestones in Chang’s life, including his rock apprenticeship, his opportunities, his humanistic spirit, musical experimentation, and artistic ideals.
