2026 AIR Taipei Open Call
AIR Taipei (Artist-in-Residence Taipei) offers residency programmes to contemporary artists and cultural practitioners, supporting both local projects in Taipei and outbound residencies in international cities. AIR Taipei uses cross-cultural and interdisciplinary exchanges to promote experimentation and innovation while deepening artistic and cultural connections between Taipei and other cities around the world. The 2026 Open Call includes three categories: International Residency, Taiwan Residency, and Overseas Visiting Residency. Artists from Taiwan and abroad are invited to take part and explore new possibilities in their creative practice. Taiwan Residency: Art and Heritage in Symbiosis Located on the banks of the Xindian River, Treasure Hill Artist Village was designated Taipei’s first historical settlement in 2011. With its hillside alleys and irregular architecture, the site is rich in the living memories of various communities, forming a unique organic landscape. Within this setting, “Artists & Residents Co-Habitation” has become the village’s core philosophy, making it a vital hub for cultivating creative talent. The Taiwan Residency programme takes place primarily at Treasure Hill Artist Village. By encouraging collaboration between resident artists, local communities, and various organisations within the settlement, the programme fosters interaction among various groups and continues to promote dialogue between art and society. It offers a broader platform for artistic development in Taiwan. Overseas Visiting Residency: Artistic Dialogues Across Borders Residency exchange programmes offer artists the opportunity to immerse themselves in different cultures and broaden their perspectives. Partner institutions span Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, and Canada. Each residency offers a unique focus—some are designed for interdisciplinary practice, others emphasize visual art, and a few are dedicated to supporting filmmakers in script development. The institutions build distinct residency environments according to their own missions and resources. The Overseas Visiting Residency encourages creators to work in different cultural contexts and reimagine their practices from fresh perspectives. The 2026 AIR Taipei Open Call provides space and resources for artistic creation and also aims to spark new ideas through international collaborations with artists and researchers from a range of backgrounds. In this way, creation becomes more than an individual act; it becomes a dialogue with local cultures and communities.1 / Québec Exchange Programme (with artist Chia-yun Wu) 2 / Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA), Australia 3 / Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS), Japan 4 / Apartment of Art Munich, Germany
