Taipei Music Center (TMC) will become a preferred venue for popular music when it formally opens in June. The center was conceived 10 years ago, and has been in the implementation and construction stages since then. Its registration as a legal entity in April paves the way for the formal opening. The Taipei City Government has assigned Kay Huang as its first chairman. She will work together with the Department of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) to transform TMC into a premier venue for popular music performances. It is expected to enhance and develop Taiwan’s music industry.

On May 15th, 2019, the Taipei City Council approved the “Autonomous Regulations for setting up the Taipei Music Center. The DOCA then started to recruit board directors and supervisors. Sixty-seven people were recommended for directors and 17 for supervisors. In the end, 15 directors and 5 supervisors were chosen. Kay Huang (黃韻玲), a music composer and the founder of GoAhead Music, was selected as chairperson. DOCA thanked these people for their willingness to help enhance the music industry in Taipei.
