Taipei Folk New Wave will be held from May 1 to June 8, featuring a series of live folk music performances across Taipei’s various music venues, including live music venues, music bars, bistros, and cultural spaces. 

With its fresh, unadorned lyrics and captivating melodies, folk music has become an important gateway to Taiwan’s popular music scene in the last 50 years, spurring the development of music spaces such as folk music restaurants and dance halls, and providing musicians with stages where they can perform and express themselves freely. 

Today, Taipei boasts a rich array of music venues, making it an essential hub for creativity, communication, and performance. The spirit of “singing your own song” continues to flow throughout the city, allowing the creative energy of different generations to resonate and be heard.

This event invites classic folk singers to recreate the emotional connection of the folk era, while also bringing together a new generation of creators and independent bands. Innovative interpretations and adaptations will showcase the vitality and diversity of contemporary folk music, bringing it into people’s daily lives and younger audiences alike, and shaping a musical landscape unique to the city of Taipei.
